My Journey to Healthy Living: Part One

cynta gets fitter copy copy

I have always been on and off when it comes to getting fit and eating healthy. I tend to be one extreme or the other which isn't very kind on my body. At the start of the year I wanted to lose weight. Since getting married (almost three years ago) I got..I suppose you can say... comfortable. I knew I was putting on weight so I would go on crazy diets, give up, eat rubbish, feel bad, go on another crazy diet. It has been a endless circle for years now as I would always make excuses for myself 'I'm too busy to exercise' or 'I'll start eating better when exams are over'.

I can officially say that I am now done with the on and off diets and excuses. Now that university is over I just want to live a healthy lifestyle! However I have noticed people can get too wrapped up in the whole 'clean eating' (which I have been guilty of!) just as some other people get too wrapped up in the 'I don't really care what I put into my body' (again...guilty!). I want a complete balance! I want to eat clean most days but have the naughty thing here and there without wanting to eat the whole entire packet of biscuits.

work out planner

I also need to get fit for my skiing holiday in December. To stay motivated with my exercising I have started a gym/work out planner where I keep track of all my work outs and when I actually go to the gym. Ideally I want to workout Monday-Thursday with one work out in the weekend (It's my goal for July so we shall see if I actually do this!).

To kick off my new lifestyle I am going cold turkey for a month of no junk food. I will bring it back into my diet in August. The idea is for my brain to be like hey I can survive without any sugar goodness. I'm doing No Junk July with my Dad and we have each put £50 on the table to motivate each other as we are both sugar monsters.

I want to make this journey into a mini series on my blog where I discuss goals and achievements. I hope it might be useful to those out there equally struggling to establish a healthy way of living.

My Thoughts On: Nars Sheer Glow

Nars Sheer Glow

I'm sure everyone has heard of this foundation and I'm sure you are all sick of all the reviews about it on the internet however I feel like I need to add my two cents worth. I purchased Nars Sheer Glow with high hopes as all the reviews I read raved and raved and raved about it. I first tried it in winter, while I liked it I never had the 'wow this is amazing' impression about it. I tried it without primer, with primer, during the day and during the night. I have to admit it is 'okay' for a night time foundation and in the day it would sometimes fade and patch on me. It wasn't until I tried it in the summer that my hate for it grew. I was shopping with some friends and went to top up my lipstick and noticed this foundation had caked all around my chin and nose! It was absolutely awful I felt so self conscience about it that I made a made dash to the Selfridges beauty hall to purchase a new foundation and asked the girls there to take off all the foundation I was wearing and replace with the new one.

I think this foundation is simply too drying and heavy for my skin. I could have a faulty product(?!) But I am not willing to spend another £31 to test this theory. It just goes to show how subjective make up is. What works for one person may just not work for another! While I won't completely bash the product because I know some people have high opinions about it but unfortunately it simply just doesn't work for me.

My Top 5 Favourite Summer Lipsticks

My Favourite Summer Lipsticks
1. Mac - Girl About Town 2. Collection Cream Puff - Fairy Cake 3. Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque - Fuchsia 4. Maybelline Color Drama - Fab Orange 5. Mac - Impassioned

In no particular order I'm going to kick off with Impassioned by Mac. This lipstick is absolutely gorgeous! It is part of the Amplified family which means the watermelon colour packs a punch on the lips. Like all Mac lipsticks it retails for £15.50 however if you want a cheaper alternative Revlon's Matte Balm in Unapologetic is very similar in colour but for me the texture is awful as it cakes and flakes on my lips.

Equally as beautiful is Girl About Town by Mac which is a deep pink/purple colour. Again it is part of the Amplified family and it is perfect for a night out. I usually wear it with fresh skin, false lashes, no eye shadow which results in the lipstick to do all the talking. I have gotten so many complaints wearing this so I do highly recommend you check it out.

I am a lover of the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks so when they released the Rouge Edition Aqua Laque I was knew it was going to be a staple this summer. When I was swatching all the colours and Fuchsia Perche was definitely the colour that caught my eye the most. When you first apply the texture feels almost like water and has a wet look to the lips. However within 10 minutes it dries to a stain like finish. It almost looks like you have just eaten a raspberry ice block! It is perfect for those days were you don't want to be worrying about your lipstick moving about on your face. This product retails for £8.99.

My top 5 summer lipsticks cannot be without an orange! The orange I'm loving this summer is the Maybelline Color Drama in 410 Fab Orange. This is just perfect! It applies like butter, stays on like a tattoo and the orange is perfect for day time. The only thing I wish I could change would be for it not be in a pencil because sharping gets very messy.

My next favourite is cheap and cheerful retailing at £2.99. It is the Collection Cream Puff lip cream in the colour Fairy Cake. It smells like cupcakes and has a soft moose like texture to the lips. It is a dark carol, it dries almost matte and it feels very comfortable on the lips. For the price and the quality this has definitely earned a place in my top 5!

What are your favourite summer time lipsticks?!
