Book Review: The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

I have not done a book review since I was 9 (but even then I used pictures to describe how I felt about it) so this is new territory for me. The main motive for wanting to do this review is the huge hype that surrounded this book (which is now in the process of being made into a movie). It intrigued me to then buy it and to be honest with you all, I liked it but didn't love it.

The story is through the eyes of a teenager called Hazel who has terminal cancer and like most (not saying all) teenage books, she mets a boy called Augustus Waters (who also suffers from cancer).
Not trying to give too much away for those who have not read it but the story then (to put it plainly) just goes through the motions of a teenage girl falling in love with a boy and it ends tragically. I suppose the fact that they are  suffering from cancer does make this love story have a Romeo and Juliet vibe but it just does not pull at my heart strings. I could not connect with Hazel. Her emotions amused me and I just felt bad for Augustus. I did find it some what adorable how they connected over a book but I just was not convinced about their relationship.

Perhaps the book was written in a way to be adapted into a movie? I don't know. However I would not be surprised if the movie turns out to be fabulous.

Let me know if you have read this book and your thoughts on it.

  2. I keep hearing good things about this book. I have it sitting on my book shelf but I haven't read it yet. I'm scared it's going to be too depressing :'(
